Among the Inuit culture, curing illnesses that are not physically apparent involve ceremonies and spirituality. The aboriginal group have a number of different medicine societies which can perform different curing rites. In cases of serious illness when other medicine societies have failed to bring about a cure the Shaman would be called in. With regard to the symbolism of the masks, they portray the Great Doctor.
