Mosasaur Jaw Fossil
The Mosasaur was a large, marine reptile that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 70–66 million years ago. Despite often being called a “dinosaur,” mosasaurs were actually giant aquatic lizards, more closely related to modern snakes and monitor lizards. Mosasaurs could grow up to 50 feet (15 meters) long, with powerful, streamlined bodies designed for swimming. They had paddle-like limbs and a long, muscular tail that helped them move swiftly through ancient seas. Their jaws were lined with sharp, conical teeth, ideal for catching fish, ammonites, and even smaller marine reptiles.
